How to make the most out of your interview

You’ve submitted your CV, passed the initial screening, and landed an interview – good work!

Now’s the chance for us to get to know each other better and find out if we are the right fit. In a way, the first interview is sort of our first date where we’re assessing each other and working out if we can see a future together. This may take place in-person or over a video call, so here are some of our top tips on how to make the most of this stage in the recruitment process.

Do your research

Dig a little deeper. You have applied to join the Aztec journey for a reason. Now is the time to take a closer look at who we are and our website is a great place to start. Take a look at our Careers pages and discover what life at Aztec is all about.

Take a scroll through our latest Insights. Get up to date on the latest trends in the alternative funds industry and get a glimpse into why our clients consider us market leading experts.

Explore our social media. Find out what our teams have been up to, from social and sports events to the latest thought leadership articles and awards we’ve won, our social media channels are the place to go for a behind the scenes scoop.

Ask around. Our people are our biggest and brightest brand ambassadors, if you know one of us then get in touch and find out why we like working at Aztec and what a day in our shoes looks like. Haven’t met us yet? Then contact one of our friendly recruitment team members for an informal introductory chat.

Come meet us. Take a look at our Events page and if we’re attending an event near you then come and meet us and ask any questions you may have ahead of the interview. Whether that’s about our culture, our history or the job role you’ve applied for, we look forward to meeting you.

Dress to impress

We adopt a dress for your day policy and the day of your interview is definitely a day to put on your smart attire and show you care about making a good first impression. Here are our top tips:

  • In advance of your interview, be sure to have appropriate interview attire which you feel confident and comfortable in.
  • Get your clothes ready the night before to avoid any last-minute stress.

Attending a virtual interview? Dressing smart is still important to make a good first impression and will help you feel more put together.

Be prepared

Before joining the call or entering the building there are a few things you should have to hand to ensure you are prepared:

  • The name of your interviewer.
  • Notepad and pen so you can take notes to refer back to – if you go through to a second interview these could prove useful.
  • Extra copy of your CV and cover letter.
  • Copy of the job description.
  • Examples of previous projects you’ve worked on that you’re proud of and where you’ve overcome a challenge.
  • Questions for the interviewer. We like when a candidate has some questions as it shows you’re interested. And remember this is a time for you to work out if Aztec if the right place for you too! So, be prepared to ask about the features you desire in your dream employer.

My last tip is to try to relax, it may feel daunting, but we are a friendly bunch and want you to enjoy the process as much as possible.

We hire the brightest talent and so our interview process may be challenging but remember, the most important thing is to be yourself and get as much as you can out of the meeting as you can to ensure you come out feeling confident.

And don’t worry, we won’t leave you wondering. Our friendly HR team will be in touch within 10 working days to let you know either way.
