    Aztec Group Champions Carbon Literacy

Aztec Group is proud to announce its ongoing commitment to carbon literacy and sustainability. As part of our dedication to environmental responsibility, we have invested significantly in training our employees to become more knowledgeable and proactive in addressing climate change.

In recognition of Carbon Literacy Action Day on 14 November, we are excited to highlight our achievements and future plans:

    • Over the past two years, Aztec has invested in training more than 100 employees in carbon literacy. This training equips our team with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions that positively impact the environment.
    • On 14 and 15 November, we will be running our 8th cohort of employees through the carbon literacy course, with 22 participants. This will be followed by our 9th cohort in January, which will include 20 employees.
    • Carbon Literacy Training has been the foundational education for many members of our Carbon Crusher Teams, driving their activities and initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainability across our jurisdictions.
    • In November and December our Carbon Crusher teams have organised several volunteering initiatives with local charities, including planting 600 trees in Luxembourg, clearing invasive species from headland and heritage sites in Guernsey and supporting the ongoing clean up and maintenance of forests in Jersey following last year’s Storm Ciaran.

Many of Aztec’s Carbon Literacy Training sessions have been delivered by leading sustainable marketer, Michelle Carvill. Michelle commented: “Carbon Literacy is all about awareness of carbon costs and the impact of everyday activities, encouraging action to reduce carbon emissions as an individual, community and organisation. It is a great course for driving positive change, and it is fantastic that businesses such as Aztec are seeing the value of investing in this training.”

Carbon literacy has been the cornerstone of our Carbon Crusher Team’s training, providing the essential knowledge and skills needed to drive positive change within Aztec Group. By equipping our team members with a deep understanding of climate change and sustainable practices, we have empowered them to lead initiatives that reduce our collective carbon footprint. These initiatives have covered a wide range of topics, from renewable energy to the circular economy and biodiversity.

“At Aztec, we believe that education is the key to meaningful change. By empowering our employees with carbon literacy, we are fostering a culture of sustainability that extends beyond our organisation and into the wider communities in which we live and work, The energy this training creates to drive awareness and action through our people has been fantastic’,” said Tania Duncan – Head of Sustainability.

As we continue to expand our carbon literacy efforts, we remain committed to leading by example and inspiring others to join us to learn about this important topic and drive action.
