Charlotte 'Walks the Walk' in New York in aid of breast cancer research.

Aztec's own Charlotte Bentley returns from her New York adventure.

Charlotte, an Associate Director in our Jersey office, has recently taken on a personal challenge for a great cause. This year Charlotte completed two MoonWalk events in aid of Walk the Walk, a charity raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

“I did my first MoonWalk event back in 2007 after reading an article in a magazine. I just loved the idea of walking round London at night and raising money for a good cause at the same time.” In 2014 Charlotte set herself the challenge of completing a further two walks, one in London and the second in New York. The challenges involve power walking a marathon distance (just over 26 miles) starting at midnight. Part of the fun and spirit of the MoonWalk, and in order to further promote breast cancer awareness, is that the walkers take part with decorated bras, showing their support of the charity.”

Completing the London MoonWalk (for the fifth time) in May, Charlotte went on to finish the New York MoonWalk this July. Whilst being able to take in the sights on London and the big apple, the walks were incredibly challenging, so congratulations to Charlotte!

Tania Duncan, Head of Marketing at the Aztec Group felt inspired by Charlotte’s New York adventure “It’s such a lovely story, it makes you think about whether you are doing enough to support these kind of charities when you see someone like Charlotte travelling across the Atlantic to do so. She’s definitely given me a boost and I’m sure she will have inspired many others around her.”

Since the MoonWalk events started 17 years ago they have raised over £75 million, with Charlotte’s 2014 fundraising efforts also being hugely successful at over £1,500. In addition to donations from friends and family Charlotte also ran cake sales at the Group’s Jersey office. Charlotte encouraged the teams to join her in providing baked treats, and these were very well received amongst the staff and showed the community spirit that the Group shares. “Whilst wanting to complete a personal challenge, I also wanted to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause”, says Charlotte reflectively. “I set a rather ambitious combined fundraising amount of £1,500 for the London and New York walks, so a huge thank you to everyone who made a donation and helped me reach my fundraising goal!”
