Background and Experience
Akbar joined Aztec in 2025, bringing with him over 20 years of leadership experience in financial services, technology and strategy consulting. He has a strong track record of scaling global, client-centric and technology-enabled businesses.
Prior to joining Aztec, he was President and Global Chief Operating Officer at Coremont, a provider of cloud-based investment management technology. He has also held senior roles at McKinsey & Company and spent over nine years at State Street, where he led global and regional client service and product teams.
His appointment reflects Aztec’s strategic focus on delivering innovative client propositions and scaling efficiently across markets.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Management Science and Engineering, Stanford University
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering, Northwestern University
Outside of the office
Akbar is passionate about spending time with his family, has a love for travel and enjoys a keen interest in food. While his fencing days at university are behind him, he stays active with a weekly game of Padel and enjoys scuba diving whenever the opportunity arises. Throughout his career, Akbar has remained committed to social impact, regularly volunteering across the Aga Khan Development Network and contributing to other important social causes.
