Background and experience
Matt joined the Group in 2010 and was promoted to Director and Jurisdictional Head of Private Equity in 2016, after playing an instrumental role in growing the Guernsey business and leading several complex migrations.
Matt led the launch of Aztec’s listed funds offering and, in 2019 was appointed as Group Head of Private Equity to lead Aztec’s growth in PE across its global jurisdictions.
In 2023 Matt took on the role of Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, overseeing the development of Aztec’s future-facing Innovation, Communications and Sustainability functions. He also played a key role in shaping and delivering the Group strategy as part of the Executive Board.
Matt boasts a broad range of experience in financial services and industry in roles in finance, strategy and leadership based in various locations from the UK to New Zealand.
While Matt has built up deep PE experience, his first professional role was on the finance graduate scheme at BMW, where he worked on various Land Rover and Mini projects. He has held a number of senior positions, including Business Advisor at New Zealand Funds, Strategy Manager for Aviva’s Healthcare business and as a CFO/Vice President at JP Morgan.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Economics from Southampton University
- Post Graduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from Oxford University
Outside of the office
As a father to three children Matt has a busy family life. However, he can still occasionally be found up a mountain or on the water, windsurfing or relaxing on his boat off the coast of Guernsey.
