Sean Hagerty,
Executive Chairman & Interim Chief Executive Officer

Sean Hagerty leads Aztec Group as Executive Chairman and CEO. In this dual role, Sean chairs the Group Board and oversees the Executive Committee, ensuring strategic clarity and operational excellence across all jurisdictions. His focus is on delivering best-in-class service, driving innovation and realising Aztec’s ambition to be a global leader in private markets services.

Sean works closely with senior leadership to execute Aztec’s long-term growth strategy, which includes scaling in the U.S., maintaining market leadership in Europe and exploring new markets. He is committed to fostering a culture that attracts, develops and retains exceptional talent – providing a place where collaborative, energetic and caring individuals thrive.

Background and Experience 

Prior to joining Aztec, Sean spent 27 years at Vanguard Investments. During his time there, he held several senior leadership roles including Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Product Officer, and most recently, CEO of Vanguard Europe from 2016 to 2024. These roles gave Sean broad exposure to global financial markets, client engagement, and organisational leadership. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Accounting from St. Bonaventure University 
  • Master’s Degree in Communications from Villanova University

Outside of the office

Family is a big part of Sean’s life and he cherishes the time spent with them – especially with his five granddaughters who are all under the age of three! He is also passionate about reading, learning, cycling, and skiing. 

During his time at Vanguard, he was actively involved in initiatives focused on financial literacy for school-age children and early childhood development.
